Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older at the time of signing the consent form
- People who are willing to sign a consent form and complete all study visits and procedures
- People who have been diagnosed with a liver condition known as NAFLD, NASH, or MAFLD, confirmed through one of the following: a liver biopsy showing evidence of the condition; a liver scan (such as ultrasound, CT, MRI, or a special fatty liver measurement test); or a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome together with liver scarring or cirrhosis, where metabolic syndrome is identified by one or more of these features: a large waist measurement (over 35 inches/89cm for women, or over 40 inches/102cm for men), blood pressure of 130/80 mmHg or higher, a fasting blood sugar level of 100 mg/dL or more, triglyceride levels above 150 mg/dL, or low "good" cholesterol (below 40 mg/dL for men, below 50 mg/dL for women)
- People whose alcohol intake has been below 21 units per week (for men) or 14 units per week (for women) in the six months before joining, and who have no history of heavy alcohol use in the five years before joining (one unit equals approximately 12 grams of pure alcohol, found in roughly one small beer, one small glass of wine, or one shot of spirits)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes
- People who have another liver disease alongside the conditions described above
- People who have taken, on more than half of all days in the past 12 months, certain medications known to cause fat buildup in the liver — including high-dose corticosteroids (such as prednisone at doses above 20mg), amiodarone, methotrexate, tamoxifen, tetracycline, high-dose oestrogens, or valproic acid
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
