Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are able to understand and sign a consent form, and who are willing and able to follow the trial's treatment plan and attend required visits and tests
- People who have been diagnosed with advanced or widely spread squamous cell carcinoma (a type of cancer) of the head and neck, confirmed by a tissue or cell sample
- People who have at least one tumour that can be measured using standard imaging guidelines (called RECIST v1.1)
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities is rated as 0 or 1 on a standard scale used by doctors (called the ECOG scale), meaning they are fully active or have only minor limitations
- People whose life expectancy is 12 weeks or more
- People who are able to use highly effective contraception during the trial — this applies to women who could become pregnant, and to men whose partners could become pregnant
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer started in the nasopharynx (upper throat), salivary glands, sinuses, or skin, or where the original source of the cancer is unknown
- People with locally advanced cancer who are considered suitable for, and are planning to have, surgery or other treatments aimed at curing the cancer
- People with a known allergy or serious reaction to the study drug or its ingredients, or who have had a severe allergic reaction to similar medicines (monoclonal antibodies)
- People who have taken another experimental or investigational drug within 4 weeks before starting the trial
- People who are currently enrolled in another clinical trial that involves an active treatment (being followed up in a previous trial, or taking part in an observation-only study, may be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
- People with an active autoimmune disease (where the immune system attacks the body), or a significant history of one
- People who still have side effects from previous cancer treatment that have not recovered to a mild level, as rated by a standard medical scale
- People who have active, uncontrolled cancer that has spread to the brain or spinal fluid and is causing symptoms
- People who have cancer that has spread to internal organs and is causing severe, life-threatening symptoms
- People with serious bone damage from cancer spread to the bones, including poorly controlled bone pain, a broken bone in an important area within the past 6 months, an expected fracture very soon, or pressure on the spinal cord
- People with a known or suspected lung condition involving scarring or inflammation of the lung tissue, or other serious lung problems
- People who have had another active cancer within the past 3 years before joining the trial
- People with a history of a weakened immune system, a positive HIV test, other immune deficiency conditions, or who have had an organ transplant or bone marrow transplant
- People with significant heart or blood vessel disease
- People with ongoing or long-term infections that are considered clinically important
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who, in the trial doctor's judgement, have other factors that might mean they cannot safely complete the trial
