Who may not be able to join:

  • People, or their family members living with them, who are currently taking or have previously used certain water tablets (potassium-sparing diuretics), potassium supplements, or salt substitutes
  • People whose kidney filtering rate dropped below a certain level after leaving hospital, without significant change over time
  • People who have an existing chronic kidney disease, such as diabetic kidney disease or lupus-related kidney disease
  • People who had a blockage in their urinary tract before surgery
  • People whose family members living with them have chronic kidney disease with reduced kidney function

  • People with poorly controlled diabetes (as measured by a specific blood sugar marker above a certain level)
  • People with very high or very low blood pressure that is not under control, or signs of low fluid levels in the body
  • People who had protein detected in their urine before surgery
  • People with severe heart disease, bowel obstruction, or a history of dangerously high potassium levels in the blood
  • People whose body weight falls outside a certain healthy range (BMI below 18.5 or above 30)
  • People who have taken part in another clinical trial within the past 30 days, or are currently in one
  • People who have difficulty communicating or who are unlikely to follow the study requirements
  • People with structural or physical abnormalities of the urinary system (such as duplicated kidneys, cysts, narrowed kidney arteries, kidney stones, or an enlarged prostate), or who have a permanent urinary catheter
  • People who have previously had radiation, ablation, or surgery on the kidney that was not removed
  • People with a life expectancy of less than 6 months, for example due to kidney cancer that has spread to other parts of the body
