Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with both type 2 diabetes and a liver condition called NAFLD (a build-up of fat in the liver not caused by alcohol)
• People aged between 18 and 75 years old
• People with a body mass index (BMI) above 18.0 (a measure of weight relative to height)
• People whose weight has been stable for at least 3 months before the study, meaning no more than 4kg gained or lost
• People who have been on a stable dose of 1 to 3 diabetes tablets (with or without insulin) for at least 3 months, or people who are not yet taking any diabetes medication
• People who are able to read and sign a written consent form

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have taken medications that affect blood sugar levels (such as steroid tablets or growth hormones) in the past 2 months
• People whose blood pressure or cholesterol medications have not yet reached a stable dose before the screening visit
• People who have had any heart condition in the past 6 months
• People with advanced heart failure, unstable chest pain, a heart attack, heart bypass surgery, or heart stenting
• People with serious or uncontrolled heart rhythm problems (confirm with trial site)
• People who have had a bleeding or blockage-related stroke in the past 6 months
• People with a history of blood clots in the brain, blocked brain blood vessels, brain growths, mini-strokes, brain bleeding, stroke, fluid build-up in the brain, or a cancerous brain tumour
• People who have had a stent placed in a neck (carotid) artery
• People with certain kidney conditions, including kidney disease with protein leakage, kidney failure, polycystic kidneys, a kidney transplant, one missing or shrunken kidney, or a kidney tumour
• People with certain digestive conditions, including fluid build-up in the abdomen, cirrhosis, liver fluke infection, severe liver inflammation, or swollen veins in the stomach
• People with certain nervous system conditions, including brain shrinkage, nerve-damaging diseases, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, severe mood disorders, or schizophrenia
• People with certain lung or heart-lung conditions, such as a blood clot in the lungs or lung-related heart disease
• People with certain bone or muscle conditions, including arterial rupture or myeloma
• People with certain immune system conditions, including Behçet's disease or lupus
• People with conditions such as cartilage cancer, fat tissue cancer, brucellosis, or leukaemia
• People who have had a cancer diagnosis in the past 5 years, or who are currently being assessed for possible cancer
• People who have had serious eye disease related to diabetes requiring treatment in the past 6 months
• People who have had a diabetic emergency (such as diabetic ketoacidosis or a high blood sugar coma) in the past 6 months
• People currently experiencing blocked arteries in their legs
• People who have had a serious infection or major injury in the past month
• People who have had two or more severe low blood sugar episodes in the past year
• People currently experiencing or with a recent history of urinary tract or genital infections
• People with blood pressure that is too high (at or above 160/100 mmHg) or too low (at or below 90/60 mmHg) at screening
• People with uncontrolled thyroid problems
• People with a history of other serious hormonal conditions, such as multiple endocrine neoplasia
• People with a history of severe liver or kidney disease
• People with a history of alcohol or drug misuse
• People who have donated blood or lost 400 mL or more of blood in the past 3 months
• People with severe mental health conditions or significant communication difficulties that would make participation difficult
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People whom the trial investigator considers unsuitable for any other reason
