Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are 18 years old or older
• You have been diagnosed (confirmed by laboratory tissue testing) with a type of kidney cancer called clear cell renal cell carcinoma that cannot be removed by surgery, has spread locally, or has spread to other parts of the body
• Your kidney cancer got worse during or after at least one previous treatment for advanced disease
• You have at least one area of cancer that can be measured on a scan (not only in the brain or bones), meeting specific size requirements
• Your general health and ability to carry out daily activities is rated at a good level (confirm with trial site), and this has not gotten worse in the past 2 weeks
• Doctors estimate you are expected to live for more than 12 weeks
• If you are a woman of childbearing age, you agree to use effective contraception during the trial and for 12 months after the last dose, and you agree not to breastfeed during this time
• If you are a man, you also agree to use effective contraception during the trial and for 12 months after the last dose
• If you are a woman, you must have evidence that you are not able to become pregnant (confirm with trial site)
• You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

• You have previously used or are currently using a type of drug called a hypoxia-inducible factor inhibitor (confirm with trial site)
• You have previously used or are currently using a drug called lenvatinib
• You have used certain Chinese herbal medicines with anti-cancer properties within the past 2 weeks, or would need to use them during the study
• You have received certain anti-cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or targeted therapy, within the past 2 weeks (or within a specific timeframe based on the drug used), or would need them during the study
• You have received certain large-molecule anti-cancer drugs (such as some antibody-based treatments) within the past 4 weeks, or would need them during the study
• You have taken certain medications that strongly affect how a specific liver enzyme (CYP2C19) works within the past 7 days, or would need to continue them during the study (confirm with trial site)
• You have had radiotherapy to most of the body within the past 4 weeks, or general local radiotherapy (not to the brain) within the past 2 weeks
• You have had major surgery (such as brain, chest, or abdominal surgery) within the past 4 weeks
• You have taken part in another clinical trial involving an experimental treatment within the past 4 weeks (or longer, depending on the drug)
• Your blood oxygen level measured at rest is below 92% at the screening visit
• You have serious lung problems that require you to use oxygen therapy regularly or from time to time
• You still have side effects from a previous cancer treatment that have not fully resolved (above a mild level)
• You have a history of a second, separate type of cancer
• You have known or suspected active cancer spread to the brain or the lining around the brain or spinal cord
• You have poor bone marrow function or serious problems with how your organs are working (confirm with trial site)
• You have severe, uncontrolled, or active heart or blood vessel disease
• You have severe or poorly controlled diabetes
• You have severe or poorly controlled high blood pressure
