Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women aged 18 or older
- People who have been diagnosed through laboratory testing with HER2-positive advanced breast cancer
- People who have at least one measurable tumour in the brain (according to specific measurement guidelines called RANO-BM criteria) that has not yet been treated locally (such as with surgery or radiation)
- People who have not previously had radiation to the brain, and for whom immediate local brain treatment is either not medically required or who have chosen not to pursue local treatment
- People whose life expectancy is at least 6 months
- People whose major organs (such as the heart, liver, and kidneys) are functioning adequately
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread to the lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord (called leptomeningeal metastasis)
- People who have brain-related complications that require urgent surgery
- People who have previously been treated with the drug trastuzumab deruxtecan (DS-8201a), or any similar type of drug from the same drug class (antibody drug conjugates that include a topoisomerase 1 inhibitor)
- People with heart disease that is not well managed or that is causing noticeable symptoms
- People with a history of serious lung disease
- People who have been diagnosed with another cancer in the past five years, apart from certain treated skin cancers or cervical carcinoma in situ that has been cured
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whom the research team considers unsuitable for the study for any other reason (confirm with trial site)
