Who might be able to join this trial:

For people who are obese (without diabetes):

  • Adults between 18 and 60 years old, of any sex or gender
  • People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28.0 or higher (BMI is a number calculated from height and weight)

For people who are overweight or obese and have type 2 diabetes:

  • Adults between 18 and 60 years old, of any sex or gender
  • People with a BMI of 24.0 or higher

  • People whose weight has gone up or down by more than 5 kg, or more than 10% of their body weight, in the past three months
  • People whose excess weight is caused by a hormone or gland disorder, such as a thyroid condition or Cushing's syndrome
  • People with uncontrolled high blood pressure, or serious heart, liver, or kidney problems
  • People who have had stomach or bowel surgery (such as gallbladder removal) in the past year, any other surgery in the past six months, or weight-loss surgery at any point
  • People with long-term digestive conditions, such as recurring constipation, coeliac disease, or food intolerances, or any condition that affects how the body digests or absorbs food
  • People with a history of cancer in the past five years, or serious problems with the immune system (such as HIV/AIDS or immune deficiency conditions)
  • People who have used probiotics, prebiotics, or antibiotics in the past three months, or who regularly drink large amounts of alcohol
  • People who have eaten yogurt in the two weeks before the study or who would do so during the trial
  • People with a history of psychiatric illness or infectious disease (confirm with trial site for specifics)
  • People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study
  • People who have taken part in another clinical trial in the past three months
  • People who the trial doctor considers unable to participate for any other reason
