Who might be able to join this trial:
- You walk with a stiff knee (your knee does not bend properly while walking) due to a stroke, a brain injury caused by an accident, or multiple sclerosis.
- If your condition is due to a stroke, the stroke happened at least 4 months before joining the trial.
- A muscle in your thigh (the rectus femoris) shows signs of stiffness/spasticity, measured at a certain level by a doctor using a standard scale.
- You have at least some muscle strength in your thigh muscle (quadriceps), measured at level 2 out of 5 or above by a doctor.
- You have not received any botulinum toxin (Botox) injections in the last 3 months.
- Your medication for muscle stiffness (such as Baclofen or Dantrolene) has not been changed in the past month.
- You have not had any brain surgery or surgery on the tendon of your thigh muscle in the last 6 months.
- You have not had a recent knee injury causing instability in the last 6 weeks.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have other serious health conditions that would prevent you from safely completing the physical tests required, such as severe heart failure, unstable breathing problems, blood clotting disorders, or significant memory/thinking difficulties (confirm with trial site).
- You have severe problems understanding or communicating that would prevent you from completing the assessments (confirm with trial site).
- You have sensory problems that would affect walking assessments, such as significant vision problems, major loss of balance/body awareness, or coordination problems caused by the cerebellum.
- You have a severe muscle condition such as a genetic muscle disease or a significant movement/coordination disorder.
- You have a specific medical reason why you cannot receive botulinum toxin (Botox) injections, such as a urinary tract infection, currently taking a certain type of antibiotic (aminoglycosides), severe myasthenia gravis, or urinary retention where a catheter cannot be used.
- You have thinking or memory difficulties that would prevent you from understanding and taking part in the study.
