Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older, of any gender
  • People who need at least 2 blood transfusions within every 28-day period (known as being "transfusion dependent")
  • People who receive their cancer care at SKCCC (Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center)
  • People who have a history of receiving blood transfusions but have never had a reaction to a transfusion

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have ever had a reaction to a blood transfusion
  • People with heart failure classified as AHA Stage C or NYHA Class II–IV (confirm with trial site if unsure which category applies)
  • People who do not speak English or Spanish
  • People who are currently without stable housing
  • People who are currently incarcerated
  • People who have poor vein access, making it difficult to draw blood or give transfusions
  • People whose cancer is a solid tumour (as opposed to a blood cancer)
  • People who are currently pregnant
