Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with locally advanced oral cancer or throat (oropharyngeal) cancer that has reached a certain size or spread to nearby structures, based on standard staging guidelines
- People between 18 and 80 years of age
- People with no previous history of any other type of cancer or cancer treatment
- People whose blood cell counts are at or above the required levels — including white blood cells, platelets, and haemoglobin (red blood cell protein)
- People whose liver is functioning well enough, based on specific blood test results for liver enzymes and bilirubin (a substance processed by the liver)
- People whose kidneys are functioning well enough, based on urine and blood test results, including creatinine levels (confirm with trial site)
- People whose heart, brain, lungs, and other vital organs are healthy enough to tolerate the planned treatment and surgery
- People with a general health/performance score of 2 or lower on a standard medical scale, meaning they are able to carry out basic self-care
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- People who are unable to attend regular follow-up visits due to personal, social, family, or location-related reasons
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial and receiving an investigational treatment as part of that trial
- People who have a severe infection or serious uncontrolled medical condition
- People with major organ failure — such as serious heart, lung, kidney, or liver failure — that would make the planned treatment or surgery unsafe
- People who have other health factors that could make surgery or anaesthesia unsafe, such as severe organ problems
- People who have received an organ transplant and are taking long-term immunosuppressant medications
- People who have a history of any other type of cancer before joining the trial
