Who might be able to join this trial:

• Children aged 12 to 17 years old.
• The child must have a parent or guardian who is available to take part in the trial as a helper during training.
• Both the child and their parent or guardian must be able to understand and speak enough English or Spanish to take part in the study activities.
• Both the child and their parent or guardian must be willing to agree to take part, be assigned to either study group by chance, and follow the study plan they are given.
• Around half of the children enrolled will need to have a formal diagnosis of ADHD based on current diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5).

Who may not be able to join:

• Children who are currently taking ADHD medication or stimulant medication.
• Children who have been formally identified as having an intellectual disability.
• Children who have vision or hearing difficulties that would make it too hard to take part in the study activities or assessments.
• Children with a history of certain brain-related conditions (such as those caused by brain injury or neurodegenerative disease), psychosis, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, or who are currently experiencing substance use issues or thoughts of suicide. Children in this situation would be directed to psychiatric support services.
• Children with significant physical or sensory difficulties that would prevent valid cognitive testing from being carried out.
• Children with colour blindness who are unable to tell apart the colours used in the study tasks.
• Children who are considered a vulnerable population, such as those in the care of the state (wards), or those with neurological or other health conditions that may affect the ability to give informed consent.
