Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed through laboratory testing with advanced (stage IV) melanoma that cannot be surgically removed, specifically of the skin surface, hands/feet/nails (acral), or mucous membranes (such as the mouth or nasal passages)
• People whose melanoma has spread to the brain, as long as those brain spots are small (under 2 cm), not causing symptoms, and not bleeding
• People who have not received immunotherapy treatment in the past year (certain targeted therapy drugs called BRAF/MEK inhibitors are allowed)
• People who are reasonably active and able to carry out daily activities, as measured by a standard medical scale called ECOG, with a score of 0 or 1 (confirm with trial site)
• People aged 18 or older
• People whose heart, liver, kidneys, and other organs are functioning well enough to receive the trial medications ipilimumab and nivolumab (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

• People who are taking immune-suppressing medications at a dose greater than 10 mg of prednisone (or equivalent) per day
• People who have an active autoimmune disease that would make receiving immunotherapy unsafe
• People whose melanoma has spread to the fluid and membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord (a condition called leptomeningeal disease)
• People whose melanoma originated in the eye (uveal melanoma)
