For receiving an invitation to the study:
- You have been identified as a current or former smoker and are registered as living in the West Yorkshire and Harrogate or Humber and North Yorkshire area, making you eligible for a local lung cancer screening programme.
- You are registered with a GP in England.
- You are between 55 and 70 years old (up to 70 years and 364 days) at the time you receive your invitation.
For the scanning part of the study:
- You were placed in the group that received the study invitation letter and have booked a lung cancer screening assessment.
- Based on your results at the screening assessment, you have been assessed as having a high enough risk level to be offered a low-dose CT lung scan.
- You have attended your lung scan appointment.
- You have given your signed or electronic agreement (consent) to take part in the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- You are not able to give your own informed consent to participate.
- Your weight or physical size exceeds 200kg, which is above the limit for the scanner.
- You are unable to lie flat for the scan.
- Your general physical health is too poor for doctors to consider treatments aimed at curing illness (confirm with trial site).
- You have had a full chest CT scan in the last 12 months that meets the programme's technical standards — though you may still be eligible at a later date if the timing works within the study period (confirm with trial site).
- You have had a CT scan of your abdomen (tummy area) in the last 12 months, or you already have one booked within the next 3 months.
