Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 74 years old, and your first episode of serious depression happened before you turned 50.
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 18 and 40 (confirm with trial site if unsure of your BMI).
- You have been diagnosed with bipolar I or bipolar II disorder and are currently going through a depressive episode, confirmed through a structured interview with a clinician.
- Your current depressive episode has lasted at least 4 weeks but no longer than 12 months.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) of any type, including MDD with psychosis, MDD with seasonal pattern, or postpartum depression.
- You have any psychiatric diagnosis that is not related to bipolar disorder.
- You have had a substance use disorder (not including tobacco use) in the past 6 months.
- You have had a significant eating disorder in the past 12 months.
- Your manic symptoms are above a certain level, as measured by a rating scale score at the screening visit (confirm with trial site).
- You have been hospitalised for mania in the past 30 days.
- Your current depressive episode has not improved after trying at least 2 different approved medications at the right dose for at least 6 weeks each.
- You have had active thoughts or plans to end your life in the past 6 months, or a suicide attempt in the past 12 months.
- You have hurt yourself (without intending to die) in the past 12 months.
- You have recently taken certain medications — including antidepressants, mood stabilisers, or antipsychotics — within a specific timeframe before joining the trial (confirm with trial site for exact details).
- You have a medical condition that could interfere with the study (confirm with trial site).
- You are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
