Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People with a primary diagnosis of one of the following: metastatic cancer, COPD (a lung condition) at stage B or E or higher, ILD (a group of lung diseases causing scarring), or CHF (a condition where the heart doesn't pump blood as well as it should)
- People experiencing breathlessness rated at a certain level of severity — specifically, a score of NYHA Stage II or higher, or mMRC Grade 2 or higher (confirm with trial site for how these are assessed)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have received hypnosis treatment within the last 12 months
- People whose life expectancy is estimated to be less than 6 months
- People who have taken part in a pulmonary rehabilitation (breathing exercise) program within the last 6 months
- People who have been hospitalised within the last 30 days
- People who are unable to attend 3 outpatient (non-hospital-stay) appointments at the hospital, scheduled approximately two weeks apart
- People with a condition that would make it difficult to complete questionnaires, such as cognitive impairment or significant hearing difficulties
- People for whom hypnosis is considered unsuitable due to a psychiatric disorder
