Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI — a measure based on your height and weight) is 30 or above
  • Your BMI is between 27 and 30, AND at least one of the following applies: you have previously been told by a doctor that you have obesity; you have one of the health conditions listed below; your waist measurement is over 80 cm (if you are a woman) or over 94 cm (if you are a man); or you have a specific diet-related risk score of 4 or lower (confirm with trial site)
  • You are able to read and understand Swedish
  • You are not currently using, and do not plan to start using, any medication that reduces appetite
  • You are not pregnant
  • If your BMI is above 40, you may still be considered as long as there are no medical reasons preventing your participation, though the dietitian running the program will assess whether the program can fully meet your needs

Health conditions that may count toward eligibility (for those with BMI 27–30):

  • Heart disease, previous heart attack or stroke, angina, or heart failure
  • High blood pressure (above 130/85 mmHg) or currently being treated for high blood pressure
  • Abnormal cholesterol or fat levels in the blood, or currently being treated for these
  • Obstructive sleep apnea (a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep)
  • Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
  • Pre-diabetes (blood sugar levels higher than normal but not yet at diabetes level)
  • Fatty liver
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Osteoarthritis in the hips, knees, or feet

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your BMI is below 27
  • You have a medical condition where losing or gaining weight could make your health worse (for example, cancer or a chronic lung condition called COPD)
  • You have many complex health conditions that may require more specialist medical support than this program can provide
  • You have depression that is currently untreated
  • You have an active or untreated eating disorder (such as bulimia, binge eating disorder, anorexia, or similar conditions)
  • You have a severe mental health condition such as psychosis or schizophrenia without any current support in place
  • You are currently struggling with alcohol, drug, or medication misuse
  • You have had thoughts of suicide or have harmed yourself in the past six months
  • You have certain other conditions that will need to be discussed individually with the dietitian to decide whether the program is right for you at this time, including: symptoms of binge eating (that do not fully meet the diagnosis for binge eating disorder); depression being managed by a psychiatrist; bipolar disorder; burnout or severe stress; neuropsychiatric conditions (such as ADHD or autism) that may affect your ability to concentrate or plan — the program requires roughly 2–3 hours of reading and tasks per week; multiple mental health conditions at the same time; or severe sleep problems that may affect your ability to engage with the program (confirm with trial site)
