Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children who are between 6 and 14 years old at the time of joining the trial.
- Children whose parent or guardian-completed screening questionnaire (called the CATS-2) shows a total score of 15 or higher, indicating the presence of trauma-related stress symptoms.
- Children whose trauma-related symptoms are affecting at least one area of daily life, such as relationships, leisure activities, learning, or overall happiness.
- A parent or guardian must have provided written permission for the child to take part, and the child must have also agreed to participate.
- The child and a caregiver must be available to attend one parent session, six treatment sessions, and two follow-up appointments at one and six months after treatment.
- The child must be able to understand instructions and take part in session activities, including with any supports that may be needed.
- During the first session, a therapist will check that the child is able to settle and re-focus after engaging with mental imagery — for example, by looking around the room, making eye contact, and appearing calm.
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who currently have a serious mental health condition alongside their trauma symptoms.
- Children who are already receiving, or are planning to receive, another type of therapy focused on trauma during the study period.
- Children who are unable to understand or follow instructions due to a cognitive difficulty or any other reason that would prevent meaningful participation.
- Children who have a medical or neurological condition, or other circumstances (such as difficulty committing to appointments), that the trial investigator considers would make participation unsafe or affect the reliability of the study results.
