Who may be able to join

AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 to 89 years old (male or female) who are willing and able to follow the study procedures and attend follow-up appointments
  • People who have a confirmed diagnosis of head and neck cancer through a biopsy, or a suspected head and neck cancer that is awaiting tissue confirmation (which may be confirmed during surgery)
  • People who are scheduled for a major head and neck cancer surgery lasting more than 45 minutes, either as an inpatient or outpatient
  • People who are considered medically suitable candidates for surgery
  • Women who could become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test within 24 hours before surgery
  • Eligible cancer types include (but are not limited to): squamous cell carcinoma of the mouth, throat, voice box, or nasal cavity; cancers of the major salivary glands; certain skin cancers (squamous cell, basal cell, or Merkel cell carcinoma); and head and neck cancers where the original source is unknown

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose cancer turns out to be a benign (non-cancerous) condition, thyroid cancer, lymphoma, or melanoma, rather than one of the eligible cancer types
  • People who do not go on to have a definitive cancer surgery — for example, those who only have a diagnostic biopsy or a procedure such as a direct laryngoscopy or lymph node biopsy
  • People or their caregivers who are unable to administer the study drug at home
  • People who have a positive pregnancy test on the day of surgery
  • People with a known history of deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot in a deep vein) or pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs)
  • People with hereditary or acquired disorders affecting bleeding or blood clotting
  • People with severely reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site)
  • People with other conditions that, in the treating doctor's judgment, would make participation unsafe or affect the study results
