Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be 18 years old or older and able to agree to take part in the study yourself.

If joining as someone with a non-tuberculous mycobacteria lung disease (NTM-PD):

  • You have been formally diagnosed with NTM lung disease according to recognised medical guidelines, based on your symptoms, chest scans, and lab results from sputum or lung samples (confirm with trial site).
  • You have not taken any antibiotic or antimicrobial medicines for at least two weeks before joining, and have never previously been treated with antibiotics specifically for NTM lung disease.

If joining as someone with bronchiectasis (a condition where the airways are permanently widened):

  • You have been diagnosed with bronchiectasis, confirmed through medical records, clinical assessment, and scan results.
  • You have never had a positive test result showing NTM lung infection.
  • Your most recent negative NTM test result must be from 2024 or later, and within the past 12 months from when the study begins.

Who may not be able to join:

  • Anyone under 18 years old, or anyone unable to give their own consent to participate.

For the NTM-PD group:

  • You do not have a confirmed diagnosis of NTM lung disease.
  • You have been diagnosed with a reinfection of NTM lung disease (meaning you had it before, recovered, and got it again).
  • You have already started taking antibiotics or antimicrobial treatment for NTM lung disease.

For the bronchiectasis group:

  • You do not have a diagnosis of bronchiectasis, or you have bronchiectasis alongside NTM lung disease.
  • Your primary (main) lung condition is something other than bronchiectasis.
  • You have a history of NTM lung infection at any point in the past.
  • Your most recent negative NTM test result was obtained before 2024.
