Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who are awake, alert, and aware of their surroundings at the time of screening
• People who can read and speak English
• People aged 18 to 65
• People who come to the emergency department within 72 hours (3 days) of being in a motor vehicle crash
• People who are sent home after being seen in the emergency department (not admitted to hospital)
• People who have an email address and a mailing address
• People who own a smartphone that works with iOS or Android, have not had their phone service cut off due to unpaid bills in the past year, and have had the same phone number for at least one year
• People whose screening score suggests they may be at risk of developing PTSD (a score of 16 or higher on a specific risk assessment tool used by the trial)
• People who are willing to take part in four remote therapy sessions

Who may not be able to join:

• People under 18 or over 65 years of age
• People who are pregnant
• People who are currently in prison or police custody
• People who arrive at the emergency department more than 72 hours after the crash
• People who are admitted to hospital after their emergency department visit
• People whose injuries from the crash are considered severe (for example, serious bone fractures) in a way that the trial investigator believes could affect PTSD recovery
• People who have changed their psychiatric medication or started/stopped psychological therapy within one month before joining the trial
• People who are currently receiving, or planning to receive, specific established treatments for insomnia or PTSD — such as CBT for insomnia, Cognitive Processing Therapy, or Prolonged Exposure Therapy
• People whose crash was deliberately self-caused or happened as part of their job
• People who report that they are currently experiencing domestic violence
• People with a history of a psychiatric condition that involved psychotic features, mania, or hypomania (note: other mental health conditions, including depression, do not prevent someone from being considered)
