Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been receiving immunoglobulin (Ig) replacement therapy — either through a drip (IV) or under the skin (subcutaneous) — for at least 6 months in a row, to help prevent bacterial infections due to low antibody levels.
- People whose treating doctor believes it is appropriate for them to try stopping their Ig treatment as part of this trial.
- People who are willing and able to follow the requirements of both treatment options in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had, or are planning to have, a stem cell transplant from a donor.
- People who have had a serious infection (graded as severe or above) in the past 3 months, or who currently have an active infection being treated with antibiotics or other antimicrobial medicines.
- People who are already taking regular antibiotic medicines specifically to prevent bacterial infections (note: regular antiviral, antifungal, or PJP prevention medicines do not apply here).
- People who cannot tolerate any of the antibiotic options offered in either treatment arm of the trial.
- People for whom communication difficulties, ability to follow instructions, or practical/logistical barriers are likely to make it hard to take the trial antibiotics as required, or to seek urgent medical attention if signs of infection develop.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People with severely reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site).
- People who have previously had their spleen removed.
- People who have already taken part in this particular trial domain previously.
- People whose treating medical team considers that joining this trial domain would not be in their best interests.
