Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are planning to have weight-loss (bariatric) surgery using keyhole (laparoscopic) techniques under general anaesthetic

  • People with ongoing serious instability in blood pressure or circulation (refractory shock)
  • People with severe heart or lung disease, such as severe COPD, serious heart failure (NYHA Class III or IV), a recent heart attack event, or a dangerous irregular heart rhythm
  • People with severely high blood pressure in the lungs (confirm with trial site)
  • People with raised pressure in the skull, a brain injury or tumour, or a condition affecting the nerves and muscles
  • People whose surgery changes from keyhole to open abdominal surgery during the procedure
  • People who are expected to be transferred to an intensive care unit after surgery
