Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of cancer called squamous cell carcinoma in the head and neck area — specifically in the mouth, throat (a type that tests negative for a protein called p16), the lower part of the throat near the voice box, or the upper part of the voice box
  • People whose cancer is classified as Stage III, IVA, or IVB according to standard cancer staging guidelines
  • People whose doctors have determined that a combination of radiation therapy and chemotherapy given at the same time is an appropriate treatment plan
  • People who have at least one measurable area of cancer (either the main tumour or an affected lymph node) that can be tracked during the trial
  • People who are in relatively good general health, able to carry out normal daily activities with little to no limitation (as measured by a standard medical scoring system)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose cancer started in certain other areas, including the back of the nose and throat (nasopharynx), the sinuses, salivary glands, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, or skin, or where the starting point of the cancer is unknown
  • People whose cancer is not the squamous cell type
  • People with early-stage cancer (Stages 0, I, or II), or the most advanced spreading stage (IVC), or whose cancer has come back in the same area, or who have developed a second head and neck cancer of the same type within the last two months
  • People who are not suitable to receive a type of chemotherapy that contains platinum (confirm with trial site)
  • People who are known or suspected to have allergies or sensitivities to the trial drug JNJ-90301900 or any of its ingredients
