  • You are between 18 and 60 years old
  • For the PKU carrier group: You are a parent of someone with PKU, or you have been confirmed through genetic testing to be a carrier of PKU (for example, a sibling of someone with PKU who has had genetic testing)
  • For the non-carrier group: You do not have PKU and have no family history of PKU

  • A urine test shows that you currently use nicotine (such as cigarettes or vaping products)
  • You have a history of a serious neurological condition unrelated to PKU — such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, or a severe head injury — that is known to affect brain health and function
  • You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant during the study, or have metal objects inside your body that could make an MRI scan unsafe (for example, a pacemaker, surgical staples left inside the body, a middle ear implant, or metal fragments in the eye)
