Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You speak English
  • You have been assessed and currently meet the criteria for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), caused by any type of traumatic event
  • You have been experiencing chronic pain, meaning you have rated your pain as a 4 or higher (on a scale of 0–10) over the past 3 months
  • You are in generally stable health at the time of joining, and any ongoing illness or disability does not stop you from attending outpatient therapy appointments
  • You have been on the same psychiatric medication(s) for at least the past 60 days
  • You have agreed not to change your current medications or pain treatments during the study, unless your doctor decides it is medically necessary
  • You are located in the state of New York, as sessions and assessments are held virtually

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have ever been diagnosed with schizophrenia, another psychotic disorder, or bipolar I disorder
  • You have taken part in a structured, evidence-based psychological treatment for PTSD or chronic pain in the past 3 months
  • You are currently receiving, or plan to receive during the study, a structured psychological treatment specifically for PTSD or chronic pain
  • You have had moderate or severe problems with substance use (such as alcohol or drugs) in the past 90 days
  • You have a level of cognitive difficulty that would prevent you from giving informed consent or completing questionnaires (confirm with trial site)
  • You are currently considered to be at risk of harming yourself or others, as judged by the lead researcher
