Who might be able to join this trial:

• You must be able to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part
• You must be 22 years old or older
• You have been diagnosed with early-stage (stage Ia) lung adenocarcinoma (a type of lung cancer), confirmed by a tissue sample, and that tissue sample is available for testing
• You are already planning to have surgery for your lung cancer
• You are willing and able to have a research biopsy of the lung guided by a CT scan
• You are generally healthy enough to carry out light activity or desk work (your doctor can confirm this)
• Your blood cell counts and organ function (white blood cells, infection-fighting cells, platelets, liver, and kidneys) must meet certain minimum healthy levels (confirm with trial site)
• If you have diabetes, you may still be eligible — whether or not you are on diabetes medication — though your diabetes care may be monitored and adjusted during the study
• If you could become pregnant, you must have a negative pregnancy test at the start, not be breastfeeding, and agree to use two reliable forms of birth control for the duration of the study
• You are willing and able to attend all scheduled visits and follow the study plan

Who may not be able to join:

• You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or unwilling to use birth control during the study
• The study doctor feels that taking part could put you at risk or that you would be unable to follow the study requirements (for example, due to cognitive difficulties)
• You are currently taking or have previously taken a type of diabetes medication called SGLT2 inhibitors (confirm with trial site if unsure)
• You have had another cancer in the past, unless all treatment finished at least 2 years ago with no signs of return — an exception is made for certain treated skin cancers
• You are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an experimental treatment
• You are regularly taking steroid medications such as prednisone or dexamethasone at higher doses (occasional skin creams containing steroids are allowed)
• You have had an allergic reaction to dapagliflozin or a very similar medication
• You have a serious uncontrolled illness, such as an active infection, heart failure with symptoms, a dangerous blood sugar condition (ketoacidosis), or severe kidney disease
• You have HIV with a low level of immune cells (CD4+ count below 350), or you have had a serious HIV-related infection in the past 12 months (people with well-controlled HIV may still be eligible — confirm with trial site)
