- People with any ongoing acute or long-term infections, heart failure, or other conditions known to affect how the body processes iron
- People with stage 3 or more advanced chronic kidney disease, indicated by a kidney filtration rate (eGFR) below 60 ml/min
- Women who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- People with an active infection, rheumatoid arthritis, or significant joint inflammation
