Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women who have gone through menopause and have not had a menstrual period for at least one year
- Women who are older than 50 years of age
- People who have been diagnosed with primary osteoporosis (bone loss not caused by another condition or medication)
- People who are not currently taking any medications prescribed to treat osteoporosis
- People who are not currently taking calcium or vitamin D supplements
- People who are willing to take part and have agreed to give their formal consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- Women who have had multiple broken vertebrae (bones in the spine) or who have significant wear and tear changes in the lower spine
- People who have used certain bone or hormone-related medications in the past 18 months, including hormone or estrogen therapy, calcitonin, bisphosphonate tablets, certain intravenous (IV) bone medications, denosumab, or teriparatide
- People who have used corticosteroid medications, either briefly or over a long period of time
- People with a history of overactive or underactive thyroid, liver disease, kidney disease, or tumours
- People whose osteoporosis is caused by another underlying condition, such as an eating disorder, coeliac disease, diabetes, or a blood disorder
