- You have been diagnosed with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (a type of lung cancer that has spread), confirmed by a lab test on a tissue sample.
- If you have cancer that has spread to the brain, it must not be causing symptoms, or it must be stable and managed with steroids or anti-seizure medication for at least 1 month before starting the study.
- You have at least one tumor that can be measured on a scan, according to standard measurement guidelines.
- You are 18 years of age or older.
- You are generally able to carry out daily activities with little to no limitation (as rated on a standard health scale used in cancer trials).
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had radiation therapy to the chest area before, or you are planning to have intensive radiation to the chest before starting the main treatment in this study (radiation to other areas of the body, such as bones, may be allowed if completed before the first dose of the study drug).
- You have had lung inflammation (not caused by infection) in the past that needed treatment with steroid medicines, or you currently have certain types of lung inflammation.
- You still have significant side effects from a previous cancer treatment that have not fully resolved or returned to a mild level (hair loss is an exception).
- You have a history of receiving a donated organ transplant or donated stem cell transplant, especially if you still need medicines to prevent rejection.
- You have active hepatitis B with a high level of virus detected in your blood, or you have hepatitis C.
