Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women who have gone through menopause, are between 50 and 85 years old, and have had a broken bone related to osteoporosis or low bone density (osteopenia).
- Men who are between 50 and 85 years old and have had a broken bone related to osteoporosis or low bone density (osteopenia).
- Participants (both men and women) must have been receiving the bone medication denosumab (also called Prolia) continuously for at least 3 years, with no gap longer than 9 months between doses.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose osteoporosis is caused by another underlying medical condition (known as secondary osteoporosis).
- People who have other diseases affecting how their bones process minerals (confirm with trial site).
- People who currently have cancer or have had cancer in the past.
- People who are currently taking steroid medications (such as prednisone or cortisone) on an ongoing basis.
- People who are currently using hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
- People who are taking any other medications that affect bone health or bone metabolism (confirm with trial site).
- People whose kidneys are not working well enough, specifically those with a kidney function score (eGFR) below 50 mL/min/1.73 m².
- People who are known to be allergic to the medication zoledronic acid.
- People who have low calcium levels in their blood (hypocalcemia).
- People who have any other medical reason that would make it unsafe for them to take zoledronic acid (confirm with trial site).
