Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Women who have gone through menopause and are over 50 years of age, with a bone density scan result showing osteoporosis (a T-score of -2.5 or lower at the spine, hip, or femoral neck)
  • Women who have never taken any medication for osteoporosis, whether by injection or by mouth
  • Women who have taken osteoporosis tablets for no more than six months in total, and have stopped taking them for at least three months
  • Women who have previously received osteoporosis injections but stopped more than two years ago

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are older than 80 years of age
  • People who have been taking corticosteroid (steroid) medications continuously
  • People whose osteoporosis is caused by another medical condition (known as secondary osteoporosis)
  • People who are currently taking any medications that affect bone health or bone metabolism
  • People who are currently using hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
  • People who have a bone or mineral metabolism disorder other than osteoporosis
  • People who currently have active cancer
  • People who have low calcium levels in their blood (hypocalcemia)
  • People who are still taking any osteoporosis treatment without having had a long enough break from it before joining the trial (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have a medical reason they cannot receive the drug denosumab (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have had a heart attack or stroke within the past year, as this may prevent them from receiving the drug romosozumab
