Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 20 years of age or older
- People who have been diagnosed with a primary (original, not returned) cancer located in the head and neck area, and who are preparing to receive radiation therapy or a combination of radiation and chemotherapy together
- People whose total planned radiation dose falls between 6000 and 7200 cGy (a unit used to measure radiation)
- People who are awake, alert, and able to communicate in Mandarin or Taiwanese
- People who are willing to take part after having the study explained to them, and who are able to sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose head and neck cancer has come back and who are going through a second round of radiation therapy or combined radiation and chemotherapy
- People who have a known allergy or history of allergy to any ingredient in the treatment being tested in this trial
- People who are unable to open their mouth because of a skin graft
- People whose cancer is known to have spread to other parts of the body (referred to medically as M1 or distant metastasis)
- People who have already developed mouth sores (a condition called oral mucositis) before the trial begins
- People who have skin diseases, autoimmune conditions, or who a doctor has determined are not suitable for this study for other reasons
