Who might be able to join this trial:

• People over 20 years old who are not pregnant at the time of screening
• People who have diabetic kidney disease (a type of kidney damage caused by diabetes) with kidney function and certain blood marker levels that have been stable for at least 30 days
• People whose kidney function falls into one of four specific ranges, measured by a test called eGFR (a measure of how well the kidneys are filtering blood) — the trial includes groups with mildly reduced, moderately reduced, severely reduced, or very severely reduced kidney function

Who may not be able to join:

• People whose kidney function is measured as near-normal or normal (eGFR above 90 ml/min/1.73m²)
• People who are severely malnourished, indicated by very low protein levels in the blood
• People with severe anaemia (very low red blood cell levels) or active bleeding in the digestive tract
• People with active stomach ulcers, bleeding veins in the oesophagus, a blocked bowel, or who are currently not eating
• People who have previously had surgery on any part of the digestive system
• People who have ongoing chronic constipation, meaning fewer than 3 bowel movements per week, difficulty passing stool, or consistently hard stools
• People who are unable to fully empty their bowels or cannot pass stool without the help of laxatives (note: if laxatives do allow bowel movements, this criterion may not apply — confirm with trial site)
• People who have had a major bleeding episode requiring a blood transfusion during a hospital admission
• People with advanced liver cirrhosis (serious liver scarring), classified as Child-Pugh grade B or C
• People who have received a transplanted organ or bone marrow/blood cell transplant
• People with a blockage causing kidney damage, or a condition called polycystic kidney disease
• People who have been diagnosed with or treated for any cancer in the past 5 years
• People with an immune deficiency condition
• People who have taken antibiotics or probiotic supplements in the 3 months before enrolling, or who would need to take them during the study period
