Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, confirmed by X-ray evidence and assessed by at least two qualified doctors, with a physical examination also finding at least one tender muscle knot (trigger point) in the area.
- People whose knee osteoarthritis symptoms have been present for more than 3 months.
- People aged 45 years or older.
- People who still have a pain score of 3 or more out of 10 even after already trying standard pain management treatments.
- People who have signed a form giving their informed consent to participate in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a known allergy to the medications being used in the trial, such as corticosteroids (a type of anti-inflammatory drug).
- People with a history of alcohol abuse, long-term opioid (strong painkiller) use, suspected use of sedative or pain-relief medications, or those currently on long-term steroid treatment.
- People with serious conditions such as severe neurological disorders, significant liver or kidney problems, heart failure, blood clotting disorders, stomach ulcers, diabetes, or inflammatory joint diseases (confirm with trial site for the full list).
- People who have had an injection into their knee joint within the past 6 months, or who have planned surgery to replace the knee joint.
- People who are unable to use pain rating scales to describe their pain levels.
- People who currently have a local or widespread infection anywhere in the body.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
