Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (a type of cancer) in the head and neck area, confirmed by a tissue test
  • People whose treatment plan involves treating both sides of the neck
  • People whose treatment plan leaves at least one specific lymph node area (called level 1b) untreated, and where a particular salivary gland is located less than 1 centimetre from the treated area (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who, in the opinion of the research team, have other serious illnesses throughout the body that make participation unsuitable
  • People who are pregnant
  • People who already have problems with their salivary glands before treatment begins, where the research team believes this would reduce the chance of benefit from the study
