Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older, of any gender
- People who are overweight or obese, defined as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 24.0 and 32.4, or a waist measurement of 90 cm or more (men) or 85 cm or more (women)
- People who have at least one of the following borderline health conditions, but have not been formally diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, or a cholesterol disorder: slightly elevated blood pressure (top number 130–139 and/or bottom number 80–89 mmHg) without blood pressure medication in the past month; slightly elevated blood sugar levels or a borderline HbA1c result, without diabetes medication in the past month; or slightly elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels, without cholesterol-lowering medication in the past month
- People who live permanently in the local area and expect to remain there for at least 12 months after joining
- People who are able to read, write, and understand basic information, can use a smartphone connected to the internet, and can operate a mobile app independently
- People who are willing and able to provide written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose obesity has been diagnosed by a doctor as being caused by another medical condition (secondary obesity)
- People with a history of heart or stroke-related conditions, such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure, or irregular heartbeat, or who have had heart surgery or a procedure on their coronary arteries, or who are assessed as being at high risk of a cardiovascular event within 10 years
- People with a serious illness that significantly affects life expectancy, such as cancer, AIDS, or severe liver or kidney failure
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who may become pregnant within the next year
- People with a history of severe mental health or neurological conditions that may affect thinking or communication, such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or Parkinson's syndrome
- People with significant limitations in their ability to move around in daily life
- People who are currently using, or planning to use, surgery, medication, or other methods specifically for weight loss
- People who are currently taking part in another trial focused on lifestyle changes
