Who might be able to join this trial:

For people with Behçet's Disease (BD):

  • You have been diagnosed with Behçet's Disease based on at least one recognised set of medical classification criteria
  • You are between 6 months and 70 years old
  • You (or your legal guardian, if you are a child) have signed a written consent form agreeing to take part

For healthy children included as a comparison group:

  • You are a child under 18 years old attending the Meyer Children's Hospital rheumatology clinic for routine blood tests unrelated to any suspected inflammatory or immune condition
  • Your age and sex match a child in the Behçet's Disease group (matched on a one-to-one basis)
  • You have no recent or ongoing inflammatory conditions, confirmed through a medical history check and physical examination
  • You show no signs of chronic autoimmune or autoinflammatory disease at examination
  • You have not taken anti-inflammatory medicines, steroids, immune-altering treatments, or antibiotics for more than 7 days in a row within the past 4 weeks
  • Your legal guardian has signed a consent form, and you have given your own agreement if considered old enough to do so

Who may not be able to join:

For people with Behçet's Disease:

  • You do not meet the recognised diagnostic criteria for Behçet's Disease
  • Other possible diagnoses have not been properly looked into or ruled out
  • You or your legal guardian have not signed the required consent form

For the healthy comparison group:

  • You are found to have an acute or long-term inflammatory, autoimmune, or autoinflammatory condition after a medical history and physical examination
  • You have recently taken anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, immune-altering treatments, or antibiotics for more than 7 consecutive days in the past 4 weeks
  • Your routine blood tests cannot be done during the visit
  • A signed consent form has not been provided
