Who might be able to join this trial:
For the review of chest X-rays taken without individual consent (routine ED care):
- People aged 18 or over who had a front-facing chest X-ray taken in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Emergency Department
- The X-ray must have the correct technical file information attached so that the AI system can process it
For patient focus groups (discussion sessions):
- People aged 18 or over
- People who are able to give written consent in English
For clinician focus groups (discussion sessions):
- People aged 18 or over who are able to give written consent in English
- People working as a doctor, advanced nurse practitioner, or advanced clinical practitioner in emergency, radiology, or related hospital departments
- For focus groups held after the AI system has been introduced, people who have worked with the AI system for at least 4 months
For the diagnostic clinic:
- People who do not have a terminal illness or severe frailty
- People whose regular healthcare is provided within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC)
Who may not be able to join:
Regarding use of chest X-rays without individual consent:
- People who have asked to be removed from the study, or who have formally objected to AI being used in their routine care and whose objection has been upheld by the health board
Regarding the diagnostic clinic:
- People whose ongoing care takes place outside NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
- People who have been referred to palliative care for end-stage disease, or people with severe frailty (for example, those who are bedbound)
Regarding patient and clinician focus groups:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are not able to provide written consent in English
