Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who are scheduled to have surgery to remove a single section of a lung (called a lung segment) to treat lung cancer
- People who are able and willing to provide written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are currently taking long-term steroid medications or other treatments that affect the immune system
- People with severe lung conditions, including: very advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD at GOLD stage 3–4), severe asthma (classified as step 4 under international guidelines), or serious scarring or stiffening of the lungs shown on breathing tests or a CT scan
- People whose surgery is expected to take less than 2 hours
- People who experience serious drops in blood pressure during surgery that do not respond well to treatment, or who need very high doses of blood pressure-supporting medications during surgery
- People who develop a new irregular heartbeat during surgery
- People who experience significant blood loss during surgery requiring more than two blood transfusions
- People who have serious breathing problems during surgery, such as very low oxygen levels, dangerously high carbon dioxide levels, or an inability to be adequately ventilated (confirm with trial site)
