Who might be able to join this trial:

• People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher (a measure of body weight relative to height)
• Women with a waist measurement of 88 cm or more, or men with a waist measurement of 102 cm or more

Who may not be able to join:

• People whose body weight has changed by more than 5% in the past six months (i.e., weight has not been stable)
• People with a known heart, neurological, kidney, liver, or metabolic condition (such as diabetes)
• People with currently uncontrolled high blood pressure, specifically Stage 2 hypertension (blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg) — note that blood pressure medication is permitted
• People diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (a sleep condition affecting breathing)
• People who have previously had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery
• People diagnosed with, or showing signs of, an airway or lung disease
• People who currently use, or have regularly used in the past 6 months, tobacco or nicotine products such as cigarettes or vaping devices
• Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or post-menopausal (all self-reported; pregnancy also confirmed by a urine test)
• People who are currently incarcerated
• People who have recently had abdominal surgery or have an abdominal hernia
• People with asthma who have very low awareness of their own symptoms, frequent severe episodes, or an unusually low sense of breathlessness
• People with a ruptured eardrum or other ear conditions
• People with significantly elevated pressure or volume in the left side of the heart (confirm with trial site)
• People whose heart failure symptoms have worsened during breathing training
• People currently experiencing a cold, sinus infection, or respiratory tract infection
