Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old (any gender)
  • You have been diagnosed with a condition called NMOSD (Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder) according to recognised 2015 international guidelines, and a specific blood test (AQP4-IgG) has come back positive
  • You are currently having an active NMOSD attack affecting your eyes (optic neuritis), where your vision has recently and significantly worsened within the last 21 days, and a brain/eye scan shows new nerve damage
  • You are currently having an active NMOSD attack affecting your spinal cord, where you have developed new limb weakness or numbness within the last 21 days, your ability to walk or function has significantly worsened, and a scan shows new spinal cord damage
  • Your current attack has been confirmed as a genuine new onset or relapse by doctors at the trial centre and an independent review committee
  • You are willing to receive a meningococcal (meningitis) vaccine, or take a specific medication during the trial and for 2 weeks after finishing it
  • You are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your eye or spinal cord damage is caused by something other than NMOSD
  • Your blood test results show problems with your blood cell counts, kidney function, liver function, or blood sugar control that fall outside acceptable ranges (confirm with trial site for specific values)
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study
  • You have received certain specific treatments (including plasma exchange, intravenous immunoglobulin, or certain targeted therapies) within the past month before joining
  • You have an active infection, such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, HIV, or any serious ongoing infection, or you have a weakened immune system
  • You have a serious heart, lung, or other major organ condition, or other significant health problems (such as heart failure, breathing failure, or a history of organ transplant)
  • You have or have had a cancer that has not been successfully treated or is not well controlled
  • You have a serious physical or mental health condition that could interfere with taking part in the study
  • You are known to be allergic to antibody-based medicines (monoclonal drugs), mouse-derived proteins, or any ingredients used in the trial medication
  • You cannot tolerate a steroid medication called methylprednisolone or gamma globulin (a type of antibody treatment)
  • You are unable to have an MRI scan with contrast dye (a special type of detailed imaging)
  • You are already taking part in another clinical trial involving a treatment or intervention
  • You are unable to understand or complete questionnaires required as part of the study
  • The research team has another reason they feel makes participation unsuitable for you (confirm with trial site)
