Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 79 years old at the time of signing the consent form, of any gender.
- People whose kidneys are functioning at a reduced but not severely low level, and who also have a significant amount of protein in their urine — there are two combinations of kidney function and protein levels that may qualify (confirm with trial site for which combination applies).
- People whose blood potassium level is 4.8 mmol/L or below at the time of testing.
- People whose blood sugar control measure (HbA1c) is below 10.5%.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with severely uncontrolled high blood pressure (top number 160 or higher and/or bottom number 100 or higher), or very low blood pressure (top number below 90) at the time of screening or enrolment.
- People with significantly elevated liver enzyme levels or raised bilirubin levels in their blood tests.
- People who have been diagnosed with, or are suspected of having, polycystic kidney disease or a specific type of blood vessel inflammation linked to the immune system.
- People who experienced a sudden serious decline in kidney function, or who received dialysis treatment, in the 90 days before screening.
- People who have previously had a kidney transplant, or who are planning to have one during the trial period.
- People who have a condition at the time of screening or enrolment that may cause high potassium levels in the blood (such as Addison's disease).
- People who have had a clinically significant illness affecting major body systems — such as the heart, lungs, digestive system, or nervous system — within the 180 days before screening, where the trial doctors consider this could affect the results or create additional risks.
- People who experienced a stroke, mini-stroke, heart attack, heart bypass or stenting procedure, or severe heart failure in the 90 days before screening, or who are planning to have a heart, carotid artery, or leg artery procedure at the time of screening.
