Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been officially diagnosed with a condition called AQP4-IgG-positive NMOSD (a disease affecting the spinal cord and optic nerves), confirmed using the 2015 diagnostic guidelines
- A blood test has shown that you carry a specific antibody called anti-AQP4
- Your symptoms started no more than 30 days before joining the trial
- If you have eye (optic nerve) involvement: your vision in the affected eye is quite poor (20/200 or worse) at the time of screening; and if this is a repeat episode, your vision before this episode was reasonably good (20/60 or better)
- If you have spinal cord involvement: your physical disability score (a standard scale doctors use to measure walking and movement ability) is 5.5 or higher at screening; and if this is a repeat episode, your score before this episode was 3.5 or lower (confirm with trial site)
- You are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have another condition affecting your muscles or nerves at the same time
- You have a serious problem with your blood's ability to clot
- You have a known allergy to plasma or to intravenous immunoglobulin (a treatment given through a drip)
- You currently have an active hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV infection, or are considered at high risk of syphilis or tuberculosis
- You have an active infection anywhere in your body right now, or you have a history of severe infections that keep coming back
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a serious long-term health condition that might make it difficult for you to follow the study plan
- Your blood test results show a significant abnormality, such as severe anaemia or very low white blood cell or platelet counts (confirm with trial site)
- The trial doctor does not think you would be able to complete or follow the requirements of the study for any reason
