Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older
  • People whose melanoma has spread (metastatic) and has been confirmed through a tissue or cell sample test
  • People whose melanoma is classified as stage IIID (cannot be surgically removed) or stage IV, according to a standard cancer staging system called the AJCC 8th edition
  • People who are reasonably active and able to carry out daily activities (rated 0–2 on a standard medical scale called ECOG — confirm with trial site)
  • People who are starting their first course of immunotherapy treatment for melanoma, using one of three specific medicines: pembrolizumab, nivolumab, or a combination of ipilimumab and nivolumab

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have previously received systemic (whole-body) treatment for melanoma
  • People whose general health and activity level is severely limited (rated 3–4 on the ECOG scale — confirm with trial site)
  • People for whom immunotherapy is considered medically unsuitable — for example, those with immune system disorders, people currently on medicines that suppress the immune system, or people with an active autoimmune disease that requires ongoing treatment
  • People with another active cancer, except those who have been fully cured of certain skin cancers (basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma), or people who have had another solid tumour with no return of cancer for more than 3 years
