Who might be able to join this trial:
For a child with DMD:
- The child must be male
- The child must be between 1 and 3 years old
- The child must be able to walk at least 10 metres on their own
- The child must have a confirmed diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) through genetic testing
- The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must be willing and able to give written permission for the child to take part
- The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must be willing and able to take part in the study themselves
For the parent or legal guardian:
- Must be 18 years old or over
- Must be the legal carer of the child diagnosed with DMD
- Must be willing to follow the study procedures and help with assessments done remotely (e.g., from home)
- Must be willing to sign the consent form
- Must be able to understand all information provided about the study, as assessed by the research team
For healthy comparison children (controls):
- Must be male
- Must be between 1 and 3 years old
- Must be able to walk at least 10 metres on their own
- Must have a parent or legal guardian willing to participate
Who may not be able to join:
For a child with DMD:
- The child has had surgery or a significant injury to an arm or leg in the last 6 months
- The child has another serious ongoing or recent illness or condition that affects their ability to move (within the last 3 weeks)
- The child was born prematurely (before 37 weeks of pregnancy)
- The child is already taking steroid tablets (oral corticosteroids) to treat their DMD
- The child is already taking part in another clinical trial testing a treatment
- The child has any other health condition that the doctor feels would prevent them from completing the study assessments
For healthy comparison children (controls):
- The child has had surgery or a significant injury to an arm or leg in the last 6 months
- The child has a serious ongoing condition that affects their ability to move
- The child has had a serious short-term condition affecting their ability to move within the last 3 weeks
- The child was born prematurely (before 37 weeks of pregnancy)
- The child has concerns around neurodevelopment or has been delayed in reaching standard childhood developmental milestones
- The child has any other health condition that the doctor feels would prevent them from completing the study assessments
