Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 100 years old
- People who are willing to have parathyroid surgery at the NIH Clinical Center
- People who have been diagnosed with sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism (a condition where one or more parathyroid glands produce too much parathyroid hormone) and are being considered for parathyroid surgery
- People who have been diagnosed with an inherited form of primary hyperparathyroidism — including first-time or returning cases — and are being considered for parathyroid surgery; this includes people suspected of having multiple affected glands or a genetic condition linked to parathyroid disease
- People who are suspected of having, or have been diagnosed with, parathyroid cancer and are being considered for parathyroid surgery
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have had a known allergic reaction to the components of the imaging agent called 18F-Fluorocholine
- People who are capable of becoming pregnant and are not willing to use highly effective contraception for at least two weeks before the first imaging scan through to the date of surgery
- People who have used an investigational (experimental) drug or medical device in the 30 days before the imaging scan, not including a specific type of scan called an F-DOPA scan
- People who are unable or unwilling to give informed consent to participate
- People who have any other health condition that, in the opinion of the research doctors, would make it unsafe for them to complete the study (confirm with trial site)
