Who might be able to join this trial:
Healthy Participants:
- People who have been postmenopausal for at least one year
- People who are a normal weight, overweight, or obese
- People with no personal history of cancer
- People whose weight has been stable (within 5%) over the last three months
- People who are willing to sign a consent form and follow all study procedures
Breast Cancer Participants:
- People who have been postmenopausal for at least one year
- People who are a normal weight, overweight, or obese
- People diagnosed with a specific type of breast cancer called "luminal subtype," at an early stage (stage I or II), where surgery to remove the tumour is planned and no treatment before surgery is needed
- People who are willing to sign a consent form and follow all study procedures
Who may not be able to join:
Healthy Participants:
- People with a personal history of cancer
- People currently following any weight loss programme, including special diets, supplements, or weight loss surgery
- People who have previously had bariatric (weight loss) surgery
- People whose regular medication has not been stable for at least the last three months
- People currently taking diabetes medication or hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
- People with significant problems affecting the digestive system, such as active stomach ulcers, chronic inflammatory bowel conditions, or conditions that affect how the body absorbs food (confirm with trial site for full list)
- People who drink more than 14 units of alcohol per week (for women) or more than 20 units per week (for men)
- People who have had surgery that has caused lasting changes to their digestive system
- People with liver disease, except for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (a common form of fat build-up in the liver)
- People with cognitive (thinking or memory) difficulties or a psychiatric condition
- People who may have difficulty following the study procedures
Breast Cancer Participants:
- People whose breast cancer is at a stage higher than stage II, or who have a type of breast cancer other than luminal subtype
- People who need treatment before surgery
