Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with a chronic (long-term) breathing condition and have been admitted to hospital for a lung rehabilitation program
- People who, at the time of leaving hospital, have one of the following conditions: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) where oxygen levels drop during physical activity; COPD with long-term breathing failure that requires ongoing oxygen therapy; or a scarring/thickening lung disease (interstitial lung disease) with long-term breathing failure that requires ongoing oxygen therapy
- People whose condition has been medically stable for at least one month
- People whose medications were reviewed and optimised during their hospital stay
- People who are able to complete a standard walking test (where distance walked over 6 minutes is measured)
- People who have given written agreement to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People with lung diseases other than COPD or interstitial lung disease
- People who need more than 4 litres per minute of oxygen while at rest
- People who have a bone, joint, nerve, or cognitive (thinking/memory) condition that may affect their ability to walk
- People who have had a heart or stroke-related event in the past 3 months
