Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who have at least one abnormal area (lesion) in the chest region between the lungs, measuring at least 10mm, confirmed by a detailed CT scan
- People who have not previously had a biopsy of this chest region and need one to find out what is causing the abnormality or to identify its exact type — and who fall into at least one of these groups: suspected lung cancer assessed by two senior doctors; confirmed lung cancer that requires further assessment of spread; or lung cancer that has come back after previous treatment
- People who have completed all required pre-procedure tests and examinations (such as heart scans and specialised blood vessel imaging) to check that the procedure is safe for them
- People who are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a written consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious heart or lung disease, blood clotting problems, coughing up large amounts of blood, poor tolerance to anaesthesia, or any other reason that makes the bronchoscopy procedure unsafe for them
- People in whom the abnormal area could not be located during the procedure, even after more than 20 minutes of attempts
- People whose lesion is found to be a fluid-filled sac (cyst) or an abscess (pocket of infection)
- People with a mental illness, severe anxiety-related condition, or any other condition that means they are unable to give informed consent
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial in the past 3 months
- People considered by the trial team to be unsuitable for any other reason (confirm with trial site)
