Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • Your doctor suspects you may have a lung condition called interstitial lung disease, and a tissue sample is needed to confirm the diagnosis
  • Your chest scan (a detailed CT scan of the lungs) has not given a clear enough result to make a definite diagnosis
  • Your doctor has determined that you are a suitable candidate for a procedure where a small sample of lung tissue is taken using a thin, flexible tube passed into the airways (called transbronchial lung cryobiopsy)
  • You are able to understand the study and give your written agreement to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your chest scan already shows a very clear and definite pattern of a specific lung condition called UIP, meaning no further tissue sample is needed for diagnosis
  • You have severely high blood pressure in the blood vessels of your lungs
  • Your blood oxygen levels are too low to safely have the lung sampling procedure performed
  • You have a blood clotting problem or another reason why having a tissue sample taken would not be safe for you
  • You are pregnant
  • You are unable to understand the study or give your agreement to take part
